2008 DogRock Degraves Road scores 96/100 by James Halliday...

May 7, 2010

By James Halliday

2008 DogRock Degraves Road
Excellent crimson-purple; the blend of Grenache/Shiraz/Tempranillo is one of those that doesn't always work – this wine does so in spades, the fragrant bouquet good, the medium-bodied palate brilliantly counterpoising the red and black fruit flavours in a fine web of tannins, the finish and aftertaste terrific. 96 points, drink to 2030, $68, Screwcap, 14% alc

Winsor Dobbin reveiws The Prince Merlot

Nov 7, 2009

Winsor Dobbin recently reviewed The Prince Merlot, here's what he said:

The Prince Merlot: a new label to me from the promising Vino Bambino stable, which has some excellent small producers on its books. There are so many dud Australian merlots around it's a real pleasuree to discover one like this attractive offering from Victoria's Pyrenees district. OK, it's soft and fleshy as you'd expect, but there's also some nice ripe berry characters and some complexity, too. This is a lovely barbecue wine and well priced at $20. View Winsor's website here

Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front ) reviews our wines

Nov 3, 2009

Reviews by Campbell Mattinson on The Wine Front

  • Cape Bernier Pinot Noir 2006 - Cape Bernier vineyards overlook Marion Bay on Tasmania's east coast. You'd imagine that it would be a pretty cool site, and the alcohol level of 12.8 percent is not a surprise.
  • Mount Towrong 2008 Prosecco - I was recently asked whether any Australian region outside of the King Valley grows Prosecco - to which I answered, I don't think so. Little did I know that there was a Macedon Ranges prosecco sitting on my desk at the time. Grown at 600 metres above sea level I believe.
  • Glaymond Distinction - Glaymond's Distinction shiraz is made from vines planted in the Barossa Valley in the early 1960s. It's a big, warm brute of a wine.
  • Little Vespa - It's a pinot grigio that tastes like a grigio, which is a good start. Not sure of the price but can't imagine that it would be expensive.
  • Stud Farm Road - Stud Farm Road Shiraz 2006 was matured in French and American oak for 18 months prior to bottling. It's a hefty wine but well priced and presented. Read more reviews on next page...
